Pink Tea is on May 9th, from 2:00 -3:00!! Mark your
calendars!!
We would like to welcome two new students to our first grade family at Newman. Jack Howard and his family has joined
us along with a sister in third grade and a sister in fourth grade. Sydney Spencer has joined us and she has a younger
sister and brother not yet in elementary school. We are very happy their families are here with us and wish them well! WELCOME!
Welcome to our first grade website. We have so many things going on that we don't want you to miss. Please return to our
site often to keep you updated on our first grade happenings, skills we are working on, and special dates. Thanks!

Please take a moment each night to go over the days rocket math sheet with your child.
Go over the new facts that were introduced (at the top of the rocketmath sheet) and have your child do the top half of the
sheet for practice. We will have rocket math every day so practice the evening before will help your child a great deal.
Please make rocket math a regular part of homework along with reading the AR book and practicing spelling words. Thanks!
First Graders eat lunch at 12:00. We would love for you to join your child for lunch but remember to call ahead
so we can help the cooks with the number of meals. You will also be asked to use your child's lunch number to credit your
lunch onto your child's account instead of paying cash for your lunch. Thanks!
Mrs. Ries' Classroom Needs: PAPER TOWELS, Gift cards from Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Staples, pencil top erasures, mms,

Just a reminder to please have your child bring back his/her AR book to school everyday. Even if your child hasn't
had a chance to read the book at home. We have a special time set aside to read that AR book in the classroom for practice
and review and your child misses out on that if he/she does not bring the book back to school. Thank you for your help with
this. Students in Mrs. Ries' class will be visiting the "Ries AR store" to spend their AR point dollars. Sr. Joan's class
will visit the "Sr. Joan AR store", too. These are their dollars they have earned throughout the first semester reading their
AR books. They have earned it! Keep encouraging them to read, read, read!!!
